Inclement weather policy covers minor crashes with no injuries
SPD said its Inclement Weather Policy is in effect for motor vehicle crashes that involve only minor damage and no physical injuries.
Under the policy, drivers are asked to exchange names, addresses, phone numbers, tag numbers and insurance information and to photograph vehicle damage and tag numbers, SPD said in a social media post. Motorists should report accidents within five days to SPD at 8691 Northwest Drive.
Agencies commonly activate inclement weather policies to prioritize emergency resources during hazardous conditions and to reduce nonessential field responses, allowing first responders to focus on life-threatening calls and severe incidents. Filing a report later and exchanging information at the scene helps ensure records are complete while limiting exposure to dangerous travel conditions.
The guidance is intended to help drivers comply with reporting requirements and protect safety during poor weather. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
