I-22, I-55 reopen in north Mississippi

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, that all previously closed lanes of I-22/U.S. 78 from Red Banks (Exit 21) to the Tennessee state line and a previously closed section of I-55 north of Como (Exit 257) are open as of 8 a.m.

MDOT warned that, although the roadways are open, icy conditions, debris and work crews remain on site in those areas. Officials advised that travel is not recommended on either route unless it is absolutely necessary.

State reports indicate ice on roads and bridges in 21 Mississippi counties: Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Lafayette, Leflore, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Washington and Yalobusha.

For live road conditions, travelers are directed to download the MDOT Traffic App from the App Store or Google Play or visit MDOTtraffic.com. MDOT said counties with reported ice are shaded blue on its maps and urged emergency travel only in affected areas. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
