Hinds County Sheriff’s Office investigates suspicious activity at Jackson courthouses
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating suspicious activity at both the Hinds County Circuit Court and Hinds County Chancery Court courthouses in downtown Jackson and has secured both locations, according to a Facebook post from the agency.
The post said alternate entrances will be used for both buildings until the matter is resolved. The sheriff’s office did not provide additional details in the post, and the nature of the suspicious activity was not disclosed.
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Hinds County, which includes Jackson, the state capital. Circuit courts typically handle felony criminal cases and major civil disputes, while chancery courts generally hear family law, probate and equity matters, making courthouse access important for litigants, attorneys and the public.
Securing courthouses is a standard public-safety response when authorities identify possible threats or unexplained activity, and it can affect court schedules and public access. The sheriff’s office said further information will come. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
