Hinds County Sheriff launches 2026 Citizens Academy

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that it will launch the 2026 Sheriff’s Citizens Academy April 6-13, 2026, at the Mississippi Natural Science Museum, 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson.

The office said the program will give residents a behind-the-scenes look at how the department operates, opportunities to interact with leadership and other elected and appointed officials, and a broader experience of the criminal justice system.

Training sessions will be held in the evenings after work hours, the post said. Qualifications for participation are listed on an attached flyer and an application link is provided with the announcement.

Citizens academies are commonly used by law enforcement agencies to improve community relations and public understanding of policing and court processes. Officials encouraged interested residents to apply and said they look forward to community participation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
