Hinds County Sheriff launches 2026 Citizens Academy
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that it will launch the 2026 Sheriff’s Citizens Academy April 6-13, 2026, at the Mississippi Natural Science Museum, 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson.
The office said the academy will give participants a behind-the-scenes look at how the department operates, opportunities to interact with department leadership and other elected and appointed officials, and a better understanding of the criminal justice system.
Training sessions will be held in the evenings after work hours, the post said. Qualifications for applicants are listed on an attached flyer and an application link is included in the Facebook post.
Citizens academies are commonly used by law enforcement agencies as community outreach and education programs to build public understanding of police operations and promote transparency. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office invited residents to sign up and participate in the program.
This is a developing announcement and the office said it will provide more information as it becomes available.
