Hinds County Sheriff launches 2026 Citizens Academy

Hinds County Sheriff’s Office announced on its Facebook page that it will hold the 2026 Sheriff’s Citizens Academy April 6-13, 2026, at the Mississippi Natural Science Museum, 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson.

The office said the program offers a behind-the-scenes look at department operations, opportunities to interact with agency leadership and other elected and appointed officials, and a broader experience of the criminal justice system. Training sessions will be held in the evenings after normal work hours.

The post noted that qualifications for participation are listed on an attached flyer and that interested residents should consult the application posted by the sheriff’s office. The announcement included a link labeled “Citizens Academy Application.”

Citizens academies are commonly used by law enforcement agencies to improve public understanding of policing practices, build community relationships and increase transparency. Hinds County Sheriff’s Office serves Hinds County, which includes the state capital, Jackson.
