Hinds County designates Northview Drive as Deputy Martin L. Shields Jr. Memorial Way

On the anniversary of his passing, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said it gathered with the family of Deputy Martin L. Shields Jr., elected officials, co-workers and friends to honor his life and service.

The sheriff’s office said it unveiled an honorary designation naming Northview Drive from Hartfield Street to East Moyes Street as Deputy Martin L. Shields Jr. Memorial Way. The office said the ceremony recognized Shields’ service, sacrifice and commitment to Hinds County.

In a Facebook post announcing the ceremony, the sheriff’s office said Shields’ legacy lives on in the community he protected, in colleagues who continue the work he loved and in the family who carries his memory. The post said the designation is intended as a lasting tribute and a reminder that his sacrifice will not be forgotten.
