Hattiesburg police pursue erratic driver; crash sends four to hospital

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Shortly after 5 p.m. on March 2, Hattiesburg police attempted to stop a gray Nissan they said was being driven erratically, and the vehicle fled, the Hattiesburg Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The department said the brief pursuit ended when the Nissan ran a stop sign and collided with a black Toyota at the intersection of Columbia Street and North Street. Both the driver and passenger of the Nissan were apprehended at the scene, the post said.

The female driver of the Toyota and her juvenile daughter were taken to a local hospital, and the Nissan’s driver and passenger also were transported to a hospital. The department said all injuries are non-life-threatening.

Authorities said charges for the occupants of the Nissan are pending and the investigation remains ongoing. The Hattiesburg Police Department serves the city of Hattiesburg in southeastern Mississippi. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
