Hattiesburg police begin academy training for new recruits

The Hattiesburg Police Department welcomed a new group of recruits this week as academy training officially got underway, the department said in a Facebook post.

Over the coming months, the department said, recruits will face rigorous mental and physical challenges designed to prepare them for the realities of law enforcement. The post said the academy sets a high standard and that only those who demonstrate professionalism, discipline and commitment will earn the opportunity to wear the badge.

The Hattiesburg Police Department is the municipal law enforcement agency that serves the city of Hattiesburg in Mississippi. Police academies commonly combine classroom instruction, physical conditioning, scenario-based exercises and legal training to prepare recruits for patrol duties and community policing; the department’s post framed the current class as beginning that path.

New recruit classes are a routine part of maintaining public safety and staffing, and the department said it looks forward to watching the recruits progress. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
