Gulfport urges donations for March of Mayors peanut butter drive
The City of Gulfport is asking residents to donate 16-ounce jars of peanut butter for the annual Extra Table March of the Mayors Food Drive, the city said in a Facebook post. Drop-offs are being accepted at any City of Gulfport fire station through a March 5 deadline, the post said.
The Extra Table March of the Mayors Food Drive is an annual community effort that encourages local governments and residents to collect nonperishable food items for families in need. Such drives are common tools for local food banks and charities to supplement pantry supplies and help households facing food insecurity.
The city specifically requested 16-ounce jars of peanut butter, a shelf-stable source of protein that food distribution programs frequently include in their packages. The Facebook post added, “Every jar makes a difference,” and urged residents to help make this year’s drive the best yet.
Gulfport’s appeal is part of broader seasonal and year-round efforts by municipalities and nonprofit groups to address hunger at the local level. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
