Gulfport Police welcome three new academy graduates

The Gulfport Police Department said in a Facebook post that Officer Makayla Plattenburg, Officer Destin Billings and Officer Jamee Bye have completed training at the Harrison County Law Enforcement Academy.

The department called the completion an important milestone that reflects the officers’ dedication, professionalism and commitment to public service and said it is proud to welcome them as the newest academy graduates.

Law enforcement academies provide recruits with basic training in criminal law, defensive tactics, firearms, emergency response and community policing, among other topics. Completion of academy training typically qualifies officers to begin field training and active duty under the supervision of experienced officers.

The Gulfport Police Department said it looks forward to the graduates’ contributions to the department and to the City of Gulfport. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
