Grenada County man faces child sex charges after arrest
GRENADA COUNTY, Mississippi — A Grenada County man has been arrested on charges of touching a child for lustful purposes and statutory rape, the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Authorities said Everett Lynn Welch Sr. was arrested March 15 on warrants related to the charges and is being held at the Grenada County Jail. His bond was set at $350,000, the sheriff’s office said. Officials said no additional details are being released because of the sensitive nature and seriousness of the ongoing investigation.
The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office, like other local law enforcement agencies, investigates allegations of sex crimes involving minors and works with prosecutors to present cases to a grand jury when appropriate. Charges such as touching a child for lustful purposes and statutory rape are criminal offenses that carry significant legal penalties if a defendant is convicted.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, the office noted. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
