Greenville police seek man wanted on aggravated assault charge

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating a man wanted on an aggravated assault charge, authorities said.

Police identified the suspect as Sidney Byars. Police described Byars as a Black male, about 200 pounds and approximately 5-foot-10, with brown eyes. His date of birth is listed as Sept. 4, 1983, police said.

Anyone with information about Byars or his whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 662-378-TIPS (8477), police said. Crime Stoppers is a community tip line many departments use to gather anonymous leads from the public.

The Greenville Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the city and routinely asks for public assistance in locating people wanted on serious charges. Aggravated assault generally refers to an attack that involves a weapon or causes serious bodily injury, and departments often seek tips to ensure public safety while investigating such cases.
