GoFundMe launches for Newton restaurant owner battling cancer
NEWTON — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Ronnie Cook, owner of Cook’s BBQ & Seafood in Newton, after he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and stepped away from the restaurant to undergo treatment, organizers said.
Family members said exhaustion from the illness has made it impossible for Cook to continue working while he begins intensive cancer treatment. Supporters said the diagnosis has brought both physical and financial challenges.
“Fighting pancreatic cancer like this can be draining and can be extremely expensive,” organizers wrote on the GoFundMe page. They asked for donations of any amount and for prayers for Cook and his family as he battles the disease. The page is accepting online donations to help cover medical and living expenses during his treatment.
Cook is described by family and friends as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and longtime member of the Newton community who has served patrons through his restaurant. Pancreatic cancer is often aggressive and can require intensive treatment that affects a person’s ability to work and finances.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
