Freezing rain continues across north Mississippi as more precipitation moves in
A 2 a.m. update posted on Facebook said freezing rain continues across north Mississippi, with additional precipitation moving in from the west.
The post said heavy rain is focused along the I-20 corridor. Roads that have been slick but slushy will become increasingly icy and hazardous as precipitation moves in from the southwest.
Freezing rain can create a thin glaze of ice on roadways, bridges and overpasses, making travel dangerous. It can also accumulate on trees and utility lines, increasing the risk of fallen limbs and power interruptions; officials and meteorologists typically advise motorists to delay nonessential travel when icing is expected.
Drivers in affected areas should use caution, reduce speeds and allow extra stopping distance. This post provides limited details; we will provide more information as it becomes available.
