Former Tupelo neurologist gets 15-year sentence
TUPELO, Miss. — Former Tupelo neurologist Ali Ahmad pleaded guilty March 24, 2026, to possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Senior Circuit Court Judge Paul S. Funderburk ordered, according to a news release from Jason D. Herring, district attorney for Mississippi’s First Circuit Court District.
The release said Ahmad will not be eligible for parole and must serve the sentence day for day because of the nature of the offense.
Ahmad previously was sentenced Feb. 11, 2026, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. Chief Judge Debra M. Brown sentenced him to 144 months in prison, five years of supervised release and ordered $96,100 in restitution to victims, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi said. The DA’s office said the 15-year state sentence will run concurrently with the federal sentence.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office also said Ahmad’s work visa has been revoked and he will be deported after completing his sentence. Herring’s release thanked the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Detective Rachel Clock, and said the Mississippi attorney general’s office and the Department of Homeland Security assisted in the investigation. Assistant District Attorney Josh Wise prosecuted the state case. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
