Facebook post urges defensive driving to keep roads safe

A Facebook post titled “Traffic Tip Tuesday” urged motorists to practice defensive driving to protect themselves, their passengers and other road users, the post said.

It listed simple habits drivers should use every time they get behind the wheel: stay focused and avoid distractions such as phones or other devices; maintain a safe following distance; always signal turns and lane changes; and obey posted speed limits.

The post also advised drivers to scan for pedestrians, cyclists and animals; avoid aggressive driving; slow down and adjust for hazardous weather; adapt to sudden stops or changing traffic patterns; respect right-of-way rules; and keep vehicles road-ready by checking tires, brakes, lights and fluids.

Defensive driving emphasizes anticipating hazards and reducing risk before a crash can occur, and those habits can help lower the chance of collisions and keep communities safer. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
