Emergency teams assess storm damage in Oxford, Lafayette County

Local officials said in a Facebook post that over the next several days teams from federal, state and local emergency management will conduct damage assessments in Lafayette County and the City of Oxford as recovery continues from the winter storm.

Officials said the assessments will document storm impacts and support requests for resources and assistance. Such assessments are commonly used to request state or federal aid, including potential assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and to help prioritize repairs and restoration.

Crews may work in neighborhoods, along roadways and near public infrastructure, taking notes and photographing damage, officials said. They asked residents to show patience and kindness while partners work to get a full picture of impacts across the community.

Oxford is the county seat of Lafayette County and is home to the University of Mississippi, making it a regional hub for services and recovery efforts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
