Deputy warns driver after marijuana tossed from speeding car
A Facebook post warned the driver of a white car who allegedly sped down West 2nd and threw a bag of marijuana out of the window after a deputy turned around on the vehicle, saying deputies recovered the drugs and an arrest warrant will be active Monday morning.
The post, published on a local account, said in part, “We got your drugs. Your arrest warrant will be active Monday morning,” and addressed the driver directly. The message indicated law enforcement intends to pursue the case once the warrant is active.
Law enforcement agencies increasingly use social media to communicate directly with the public about investigations, warn suspects and provide community updates. Discarding suspected contraband in view of officers does not prevent legal consequences, officials say, and can prompt further enforcement action.
Details in the post were limited and the account did not identify specific officers, the exact time of the incident or which agency will seek the warrant. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
