Deputy reads to students at Lee County child care center for Read Across America
Deputy Donald read to a classroom at the Early Education Childcare Center (EECC) this week in celebration of Read Across America Week, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The post said the visit gave the deputy an opportunity to share a love of reading and spend time with young students, including his own son. The office did not provide additional details about the visit in the post.
Read Across America Week is a national literacy initiative run by the National Education Association that began in 1998 and is often tied to activities around the birthday of author Theodor Seuss Geisel, known as Dr. Seuss. Schools, libraries and community organizations commonly mark the week with guest readers and events aimed at encouraging children to read.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has participated in community outreach efforts that include school visits and public-safety education. The classroom visit underscores local law enforcement’s role in community engagement and youth literacy efforts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
