Department thanks public after missing tires, mounts replacements on MRAP

The department thanked the public for its support following last week’s “Case of the Missing Tires,” saying it has not yet identified a suspect but has restored limited mobility to its armored vehicle.

In a Facebook post, the department said the tire thief remains at large but crews fitted a set of Dodge Charger tires onto the MRAP, giving the vehicle a modest boost in speed. The post said the vehicle is “not exactly pursuit rated” but is “slightly faster than a Roomba, depending on the flooring.”

The post said the thief left behind a stack of wooden blocks, which staff have turned into an informal Jenga tournament while the investigation continues. The department said morale is high and the MRAP is technically mobile.

An MRAP is an armored vehicle originally developed for military use and often repurposed by agencies for high-risk response. The department said investigators are working the case. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
