Denman receives 10-year day-for-day sentence for meth trafficking
TUPELO, Miss. — Derrick Lerenzo Denman pleaded guilty Feb. 12 to trafficking methamphetamine in Lee County and was ordered to serve 10 years day-for-day, the District Attorney’s Office said.
Circuit Court Judge John R. White sentenced Denman to a total of 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 30 years suspended, leaving 10 years to serve. Under the sentence, Denman will not be eligible for parole or early release, and upon his release he must complete five years of post-release supervision, the office said.
The office said the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics conducted an extensive investigation into Denman’s alleged narcotics activity. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Megan French on behalf of the State of Mississippi, the release said. District Attorney Jason D. Herring’s office recognized the agencies for what it described as a relentless and strategic investigation.
The North Mississippi Narcotics Unit and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are regional and state law enforcement agencies that investigate illegal drug distribution, the office noted. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
