Copiah animal shelter seeks foster homes as kennels reach capacity
COPIAH COUNTY, Mississippi — Copiah Animal Shelter is urgently asking residents to open their homes to dogs and puppies after its kennels reached capacity, shelter officials said Thursday.
Officials said the shelter has run out of space and needs foster homes to relieve overcrowding and provide temporary, quieter settings for animals that are stressed in the kennel environment or are recovering from medical needs. The shelter said fostering can free space and increase the number of animals available for rescue and adoption.
The shelter provides food, veterinary care and supplies for foster animals, while foster families supply a temporary home and daily care, officials said. They added that fostering a single dog for a few days or a couple of weeks can allow staff to help additional animals.
The shelter is located in Crystal Springs. Anyone interested in fostering is asked to message the shelter or call 601-954-6447. Animal shelters often rely on foster networks to reduce stress and improve animals’ chances of adoption. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
