Community mourns Corrections Deputy Ryan Peterson

Corrections Deputy Ryan Peterson has died, his employer said in a post on Facebook, asking for prayers for his family, friends and co-workers.

The social media message said Deputy Peterson chose to serve his community and that he arrived at work prepared to protect others, support his co-workers and make an impact on those around him. The post asked the public to keep his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers and included the message “Rest easy, Deputy Peterson,” saying the agency will continue to honor his memory.

Corrections deputies typically work in jails and detention centers, where they supervise incarcerated people, maintain security and support rehabilitation and reentry efforts. Their work is a core part of the criminal justice system and can have a substantial impact on public safety and the families of both staff and inmates.

The agency did not release further details about Deputy Peterson’s death in the Facebook post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
