Colby Huffman makes strides in recovery at Shepherd Center
The Starkville Police Department posted on Facebook April 6 an update from Corporal Colby Huffman’s family saying he is making significant progress at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
The family said Huffman is talking, walking with assistance and eating without restrictions. He is now off the ventilator and the removal of his tracheostomy tube is expected soon.
Huffman is scheduled for another leg surgery Friday, April 10, to help his femur heal, the family said. Medical staff at the Shepherd Center are optimistic he could be ready for outpatient therapy within a few weeks.
The family thanked the Starkville community for its “overwhelming love, prayers and support” and asked that prayers continue. They provided a mailing address for cards: The Huffmans, 1860 Peachtree Rd. NW, Apt. 502, Atlanta, GA 30309.
The Shepherd Center is a specialized rehabilitation hospital in Atlanta that treats people with brain and spinal cord injuries. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
