Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office warns against travel as snow, ice begin
The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office warned residents on Facebook that snow mixed with ice has begun to fall and urged people not to attempt travel unless it is an emergency.
The post said the sheriff’s office will continue to offer courtesy rides to essential workers Sunday, and asked anyone needing a ride to call about 45 minutes to an hour in advance to arrange transportation.
The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Coahoma County, Mississippi, and often coordinates emergency responses and public safety notices during severe weather. Winter precipitation that includes ice can create hazardous driving conditions, including slippery roads, reduced visibility and a higher risk of crashes and delays.
Local authorities commonly advise residents to stay off roads during icy conditions unless travel is necessary, to allow emergency and road crews to respond. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
