Biloxi police monitor weather for traffic hazards

Biloxi Police said in a Facebook post that officers are monitoring current weather conditions and how they could affect traffic on city roadways. Patrol Officer Sterling and other Biloxi police officers are standing ready to protect and serve, the post said.

The department warned that wet and icy roads can create hazardous driving conditions and urged motorists to use caution if they must travel. Officials did not provide specific incident reports or road closures in the post.

Biloxi Police Department is responsible for public safety and traffic enforcement in Biloxi, Mississippi, a Gulf Coast city that can experience rapidly changing weather. Monitoring conditions helps the department deploy patrols to respond to crashes, stranded motorists and traffic congestion.

Drivers can reduce risk by slowing down, increasing following distance and allowing extra time for travel when road surfaces are slick. Motorists should also follow road signs and directions from officers on scene.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
