Auditor Shad White visits Laurel Rotary Club

State Auditor Shad White visited and spoke to the Laurel Rotary Club this week, the club said in a Facebook post announcing the appearance.

According to the post, White’s office said it has recovered more money in the last seven years than during any other seven-year period in the office’s history and said it looks forward to recovering more. The post did not provide specific figures.

The State Auditor’s Office investigates the use of public funds, audits state and local government agencies and works to identify fraud, waste and abuse. Recoveries can include funds returned to taxpayers or redirected to proper accounts, and officials say such work aims to increase transparency and accountability in government.

The Laurel Rotary Club is a local chapter of Rotary International, a service organization that brings community leaders together to address local and international needs. Visits by public officials to civic groups give residents a chance to hear about government work and to ask questions about public spending and oversight.

Details of White’s remarks were limited in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
