AT&T restores E-911 service, Lowndes County sheriff says
AT&T has resolved issues that affected E-911 service earlier today, Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said in a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.
Sheriff Hawkins said the system is back up and operating properly and thanked residents for their patience while the matter was addressed. He urged anyone experiencing an emergency to dial 911 as normal.
Enhanced 911, commonly called E-911, routes emergency calls to the appropriate local dispatch center and can provide call location information to first responders. The system involves coordination between telephone carriers and public safety agencies.
Outages or disruptions to E-911 service can hinder the speed and accuracy of emergency response, which is why public safety offices closely monitor such incidents and post updates when service is restored. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office shared the update on its official Facebook page.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
