AT&T outage interrupts E-911 access, Lowndes County urges alternate contact

Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook that AT&T is currently experiencing issues with E-911 service that may affect some AT&T customers’ ability to reach 911 from mobile devices.

The sheriff’s office advised residents who cannot complete a 911 call from an AT&T phone to try calling 911 again from a different mobile phone or a landline. It also provided a direct number for assistance: call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at (662) 328-6788.

The office said its dispatch center is operational and that deputies and first responders remain ready to respond to emergencies. It urged anyone who is able to connect with 911 during an emergency to stay on the line until help arrives.

Enhanced 911, or E-911, is designed to route emergency calls to the appropriate local dispatch center and can provide location information for callers. Lowndes County officials asked residents to share the advisory to help keep the community informed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
