AARP chapter hosts Coffee with a Cop Thursday

AARP Chapter 165 will sponsor a Coffee with a Cop event Thursday morning, giving residents an opportunity to meet local police officers in an informal setting, organizers said in a Facebook post.

The post said, “Good coffee. Great conversations.” The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at Golden Triangle Planning and Development District, 106 Miley Drive. The post noted there will be no speeches and no agendas and said everyone is welcome.

Coffee with a Cop is a community policing program designed to foster dialogue between residents and law enforcement without formal presentations. The events are held in towns and cities across the country to help build relationships, increase understanding and give residents a chance to raise concerns in a relaxed atmosphere.

AARP is a nonprofit organization that advocates for people 50 and older and whose local chapters often sponsor community activities. Organizers said the sponsorship by AARP Chapter 165 is meant to encourage community members to take a few minutes to connect with the officers who serve the area. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
