Corinth man sentenced to 15 years for fatal vehicular crash

CORINTH, Miss. — A Corinth man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to culpable negligence manslaughter in connection with a deadly car crash in 2024.

Michael Wayne Hawley, 46, admitted to the charge during a hearing in the Circuit Court of Alcorn County. Judge Michael P. Mills Jr. accepted the plea and ordered Hawley to serve 15 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Upon release, Hawley will face five years of post-release supervision.

The case stems from a crash on April 25, 2024, on Highway 72 near Galyean Road. Investigators say Hawley was driving at speeds of up to 103 miles per hour just seconds before the collision. The crash killed William Pady, who was unresponsive at the scene and later died at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

The investigation included witness statements, surveillance footage, vehicle data, and accident reconstruction by Mississippi Highway Patrol. Detective Michael Suitor led the probe, and Trooper First Class Todd Davis conducted the reconstruction.

The sentencing followed testimony from multiple witnesses and video evidence documenting the crash. The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Jason D. Herring and assistant district attorneys Kyle Robbins and Clay Cummings. This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
