UMMC reports significant progress in cyberattack recovery
JACKSON, Mississippi — The University of Mississippi Medical Center said Wednesday it is making “significant progress” in responding to a cyberattack and restoring systems, but it will cancel regularly scheduled clinic appointments and elective procedures through Friday.
In a Feb. 25 update, UMMC said all hospitals and emergency departments in Jackson, Madison County, Holmes County and Grenada remain open. The medical center said canceled appointments will be rescheduled and urged patients with time-sensitive needs to call an automated triage line at 601-815-0000.
UMMC said patients who contact the triage line and require urgent care will be contacted directly to schedule a clinic visit from Wednesday through Friday. Hospital officials said they are hopeful elective procedures and routine clinic operations could resume as early as Monday, though they said the timeline should become clearer over the next couple of days.
UMMC apologized for the inconvenience. Cyberattacks have forced hospitals across the country to restrict services and activate alternate patient-access systems in recent years. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
