Parker couple gives $250,000 to support UMMC cancer center home

Dr. Paul Parker and his wife, Kerry, have given $250,000 to support a new home for the University of Mississippi Medical Center Cancer Center and Research Institute, UMMC said.

Parker, who spent decades caring for Mississippi’s children, is helping shape the future of adult cancer care through the gift, UMMC said. The donation is intended to support the institution’s effort to expand and centralize cancer treatment and research.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center serves as the state’s academic medical center and is a primary site for advanced clinical care and medical research in Mississippi. Expansion of cancer center facilities and research capacity can improve access to specialized care for patients who otherwise might travel out of state.

UMMC said the Parkers’ personal journey influenced their decision to support the cancer center. Philanthropic contributions like this one often help health systems accelerate construction, recruit specialists and fund clinical research aimed at improving patient outcomes.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
