Mississippi proclaims Walking Day to back American Heart Association

Mississippi is supporting the American Heart Association’s efforts to encourage residents to be more active, a Facebook post said.

The post said the state “proudly supports the American Heart Association – Mississippi and American Heart Association’s efforts to get out and get moving,” adding, “there’s not a more beautiful state to do that in than ours!” It also said, “I’ve proclaimed tomorrow as Walking Day in Mississippi!”

The American Heart Association is a national nonprofit that promotes heart health and prevention of cardiovascular disease through public education, research funding and community programs. Walking and other forms of regular physical activity are core components of heart-healthy guidance promoted by public health groups.

The proclamation and the association’s local efforts aim to raise awareness about physical activity and encourage residents to take part in walking and community fitness events. Officials did not provide additional details about planned events or long-term initiatives in the Facebook post.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
