Simino wins Regions Bank TEACH Prize, donates $10,000 to department

Dr. Jeannette Simino, who once came to teaching reluctantly, has grown into the role in extraordinary fashion and has won the 2026 Regions Bank TEACH Prize at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the medical center said. The honor recognizes her instructional work, and Simino donated the $10,000 award to her department.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state’s only academic medical center and trains physicians, nurses and other health professionals. UMMC said the prize highlights Simino’s commitment to students and colleagues and noted that humility, gratitude and student support shaped her path into teaching.

Teaching awards such as the Regions Bank TEACH Prize are intended to call attention to exceptional instruction and mentorship in higher education and health professions training. Simino’s decision to give the award to her department underscores a focus on collective support rather than individual recognition.

Details about Simino’s specific role, the department that received the donation and next steps were not included in the initial notice. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
