Jackson police chief reads to students during Read Across America Week
Chief Tyree Jones of the Jackson Police Department read to students at The Scholars Academy during Read Across America Week, the department said in a Facebook post.
The post included photos of Jones reading and said he encouraged others to take advantage of the opportunity to visit classrooms. The department said the event was part of the national literacy initiative and highlighted the chief’s participation in school outreach.
Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program sponsored by the National Education Association that many schools and community organizations observe each year. Local law enforcement agencies often take part in such events to promote literacy and build positive relationships between officers and young residents.
The Jackson Police Department, the municipal law enforcement agency, posted the images and message to its social media page to share the community engagement activity. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
