Laurel Police Officer Indicted for Alleged Shooting of Child

A grand jury has indicted a Laurel police officer in connection with the alleged shooting of a child in October 2023.

According to court documents, Officer Jacob Giangrosso was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault. The indictment was filed Feb. 23, 2026, in the Circuit Court of Jones County’s Second Judicial District.

The indictment alleges that on or about Oct. 30, 2023, Giangrosso “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously” attempted to cause bodily injury to a minor using a firearm, an act considered likely to produce serious bodily harm or death. The name of the child is being withheld.

The charge falls under Mississippi Code Section 97-3-7(2), which governs aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon.

The Brooks Law Firm, which is representing the injured child, confirmed the indictment in a statement.

The case was presented to a grand jury, which returned what is known as a “true bill,” meaning jurors found sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.

No further details about the circumstances of the shooting have been released publicly.

It is unclear when Giangrosso is expected to make his next court appearance.
