Oxford Utilities asks customers to report unlisted electric outages
Oxford Utilities says electric meters automatically report outages, but customers who experience a power outage that does not appear on the utility’s online outage map should report it by phone.
The utility said in a Facebook post that customers can call the office at 662-232-2373 during regular hours or 662-232-2410 after hours to report an outage. The post did not provide additional details about the scale or cause of any current outages.
Oxford Utilities, the municipal utility serving the city of Oxford, Mississippi, uses automated metering to detect and map many outages. Automated outage reporting can help utilities identify problems more quickly, but gaps can occur when meters fail to communicate or when an outage affects only a small number of customers.
Reporting an outage directly ensures the utility is aware of problems that might not be captured on the map and helps prioritize repairs and safety responses. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
